- What are the red flags of an unsafe ayahuasca retreat?
No medical screening, no integration support after, sexual contact between facilitators and participants, unclear lineage, secrecy around who is serving, pressure to drink more, and testimonials that all sound identical. Any single one is a reason to walk away.
Choosing a Retreat23 Jul 2026 - How much should an ayahuasca retreat cost?
In Peru, expect $1500–3500 for a well-run week-long retreat. In Europe or North America, $2500–5000+ is typical because of legal and logistical costs. Very cheap retreats often cut corners on safety; very expensive ones are not automatically safer.
Choosing a Retreat23 Jul 2026 - How do I choose a safe and ethical ayahuasca retreat?
Ask hard questions before you send money. Who are the facilitators, how long have they trained, and with whom? What's the medical screening, and is there a doctor on call? What's the participant-to-facilitator ratio, and what happens if you have a hard night? How do they handle boundaries, especially around touch and one-on-one time? Talk to two or three past participants directly. Any retreat that gets defensive about these questions is telling you something.
